A Domestic Partner Registry for Orlando & the Equality Florida Gala, it’s all happening in Gay Orlando!

Orlando is definitely a progressive city when it comes to the LGBT community – it has a very well established LGBT population and is a popular destination for Gay tourists who are looking to enjoy the theme parks and the local cultural activities as well as night life.

However the city of Orlando is about to kick it up a notch as it is pushing for a domestic partner registry. Orlando’s mayor Buddy Dyer and his staff are taking big steps toward the establishment of a domestic partner registry which would provide some protections for those Gay couples when it comes to hospital visitation, rights to health care decisions, correctional facility visitation, rights to funeral/burial decisions, guardianship and the right for both domestic partners to participate in the education of their children.

Orlando has also been encouraging Orange County to walk alongside them with this proposal and pursue the domestic partner registry at the same time as the city. While just proposed at the moment, the local ordinance is hopefully going to finish being reviewed by all by the end of the year. If Orlando and Orange County passes such an ordinance it would be a great step forward for many LGBT Domestic Partners in the area.

But that’s not all that is going on in Gay Orlando! Along this same story, the annual Equality Florida Greater Orlando Gala is coming next week on November 5th at the Orlando Museum of Art. The event is aiming to raise a groundbreaking $75,000 this year.

The event is in it’s 7th year and is as popular as ever. The gala is the premiere Equality Florida fundraising event for the Central Florida region. Last year’s event raised a record $73,000 which is great, but behind other galas in equal sized cities. This year both the Orlando City Mayor and the Orange County Mayor will be in attendance so perhaps the Domestic Partner Registry will be brought up in conversation? This great event is extremely popular in the local LGBT community.

What is for sure is that it is a great time to be in Orlando and you can see why so many people in the LGBT community love to call it home!

With Orlando being such a great place to live and having a very welcoming LGBT community and many friendly neighborhoods, the metro Orlando area is the perfect relocation destination.
