That’s right it is that time of year again. One of Orlando’s most popular fundraising events is about to kick off for its 17th year. In fact this event is second only to the Headdress Ball!
The annual AIDS Walk Orlando is this coming Saturday, May 19th and this year there are some changes. This year rather than just simply walking around Lake Eola, this year walkers will take a 2.4 mile walk through downtown Orlando. This is because the number of walkers over the years has grown so much that Lake Eola simply isn’t big enough anymore! However Lake Eola will still be partly involved as the event will finish with a concert by Sisaundra Lewis at the lake’s beautiful amphitheatre.
By changing the route of AIDS Walk Orlando through Downtown Orlando it is likely that the event will also get more exposure and publicity too. Last year the event raised over $167,000 and the organizers; Hope and Help are hoping to raise even more this year. Registration for the walk will begin at 7:45 a.m., fifteen minutes earlier than last year, and the walk itself will begin at 8:30 a.m., a half hour earlier than last year.
For those who would like to get involved then go ahead and visit the AIDS Walk Orlando website (AIDSWalkOrlando.org) there is still time to register as a participant!
This is definitely and exciting event for the LGBT community in Orlando.
