Gay Orlando: Epcot’s 16th Annual Food and Wine Festival – Why Wait for Gay Pride for fun?!

Who doesn’t enjoy a little food and a little wine!

While we are all waiting for the fun and frivolity offered by Orlando’s Come Out With Pride we can definitely take some time out to enjoy another great festival going on in the Orlando area right now. That’s right – Epcot’s annual food and wine festival!

This year this fantastic event is in it’s 16th year and this year’s theme is “Passport to a World of Flavors.” For 2011 the event has been extended a little due to its immense popularity and is running from September 30 – November 13, 2011 giving you plenty of time to get out there and visit Epcot and enjoy some of the delights on offer. (Don’t forget Epcot Theme Park admission is required!)

As the Official Walt Disney World website says: “From tasty tapas and refreshing beverages to celebrity chef demonstrations and rock star performances, there’s something to satisfy most every taste and interest.”  – the spectacular annual event has become so popular that it even has its own official Facebook page! where you can find out more on menus’ recipes and the like.

For this year’s festival there are 2 new wines made exclusively for Disney Parks that are debuting at the event. Definitely good fun to get out and discover those! The number of food kiosks (called “International Marketplaces“) has grown to 25 vendors this year offering tapas sized portions between $3 and $8 a piece. The Hawaii, Caribbean and Portugal kiosks are new additions for 2011 and are bound to be as popular as the rest and…after a break the Scandinavia marketplace has returned offering a refreshing Carlsberg and a platter of seafood – Herring, Salmon and Shrimp Salad. Delicious!

All of this is set to a fun soundtrack in the evening hours thanks to the Eat to the Beat concert series at the American Gardens Theater opposite the American Pavilion. Check the Disney website for current performance listings.

This event brings thousands of tourists to Orlando and definitely encourages local residents to get out and enjoy what is on their doorstep! The event, as with Walt Disney World and Orlando in general is very gay friendly and you will often see LGBT couples enjoying this fantastic annual event. So what are you waiting for?!
