Gay Orlando: Home to the GLBT History Museum of Central Florida

There are so many gay friendly and gay owned businesses in Orlando that it would be impossible to mention them all, however there is a unique part of Orlando’s Gay community which calls this town home and that is the GLBT History Museum of Central Florida.

What is the GLBT History Museum I hear you say? Well, the GLBT History Museum’s mission is to collect, preserve and exhibit the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender communities history in Central Florida. It is dedicated to collecting memorabilia, preserving the documentary record, and displaying with pride that community’s social and historical contributions so that it’s legacy is not forgotten.

They strive to educate people and show the experiences of Central Florida GLBT population over the years. By recording the Central Florida GLBT history through donations of funds and memorabilia they are working on having a permanent location to house the collection. Their extensive collection of pictures, artifacts and records has been exhibited in many places in Central Florida and one aim is to develop a mobile museum to tour colleges, have temporary installations at private corporations, and non-profit organization meetings and events.

This interested in the Museum can help by getting involved. Find out more on the Museum’s website about getting involved and making GLBT history in Central Florida! It is definitely an interesting project that serves the local Gay population as a historical record and to educate everyone about a part of Central Florida’s history that isn’t well recorded elsewhere.

With a growing GLBT population in Central Florida and so much to offer the Gay population it is no wonder that a museum like this has been founded.
