Orlando is a great place to raise kids! After all with so much to see and do from theme parks through to the great schools, it is no wonder that the city is getting a reputation as a place to raise a family.
Since the adoption laws changed for the State of Florida back in 2010 there has been a surge in Gay Couples adopting children and starting families of their own. With many LGBT people being cut off from their families, where do you turn for support when it comes to raising your own family? Well, there is a great social group out of The Center called “Orlando Gay Parenting” which is an LGBT group of parents, expecting parents and aspiring parents who are there to support each other.
Their mission is to offer our kids the opportunity to get to know children from similar families, to exchange insight and advice from personal experiences in various situations such as adoption and other legal procedures, pregnancy, and child-rearing, and of course to simply provide a social atmosphere for non-traditional families to get together and have fun in a non-judgemental atmosphere.
They meet in a social setting once a month at various locations throughout greater Orlando with members coming from as far as Haines City through to Cocoa and everywhere in between. If you identify as LGBT and you have children or are expecting a child, looking to adopt a child, or are just considering starting a family then this could be the group for you. Why not check it out? See more on their Facebook page here.
